Comic Timing Episode 239 – Review Corner: Radiant Black, Volume 1

A long-awaited episode from the before-times finally makes its way from deep space and into your ear holes! And with it, a return to the long-dormant Review Corner format of Comic Timing episodes. The foursome of Ian, Chris Eberle, Adam Murdough and Shane Kelly get their hands on Kyle Higgins and Marcelo Costa’s epic introduction to the Massive-verse, Radiant Black! This first volume covers the first six issues of the book, as Nathan moves back home just in time to accidentally come across a Radiant, granting him ever-growing gravity abilities. With the assistance of his best friend Marshall, he tries to figure this all out, while also figuring himself out. And if you think that’s the whole of the story, there’s a lot more where that came from! For instance, who is Radiant Red? And what villains are trying to track these new heroes (?) down and make their power their own? So much to uncover, so much to learn, and we are ready to dive right in!

Time is broken!!! Travel thirty years into the past with us, as we investigate the cause of this calamity. Boarding the time vessel (not Time Bubble, that’s taken) to dissect Zero Hour in full for this episode is the crew of Ian, Adam Murdough, Chris Eberle and Shane Kelly. Topics include the lasting impact of Zero Hour, the Showcase ’94 prologue and why they’re included in the collection, whether or not it quantifies itself as a Crisis in the DC sense, the temporary return of Batgirl, Dan Jurgens’ scripting and how the story holds up, tie-in books that are worth it and are worth skipping, the Parallax of it all, why Monarch is not exactly the most remembered villain (and neither is Extant), the fate of the Justice Society post-Zero Hour, and so much more. We also delve into the recently released Zero Hour 30th Anniversary Special by Dan Jurgens and Ron Marz, and how that might unexpectedly factor into upcoming DC Comics storylines.

Ian is joined by Shane Kelly, Adam Murdough and Professor Chris Eberle for this one, as Chris completes a deep dive into Wolverine’s history. This episode specifically focuses on Wolverine’s comic book history from his creation and introduction, up to the end of 1983, with Uncanny X-Men #176, including Claremont and Miller’s Wolverine miniseries. We also delve into buckets of retro continuity, including Barry Windsor-Smith’s Weapon X, Origin, Origins, Origin II, and so much more. Care for a piece of fruit, this one is jam-packed indeed!

Comic Timing Episode 221: Retro Movie Review – Ghostbusters

Bustin’ makes me feel good! This episode, Retro Movie Reviews make their way to Comic Timing, and so does the crew of Chris Eberle, Adam Murdough, and Shane Kelly! The foursome is joined by none other than Danielle Corsetto to discuss her favorite movie of all time, Ghostbusters. They go through what makes the movie work so well forty years later, what almost was a movie with John Belushi and Eddie Murphy instead of Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson, Dan Akroyd’s ability to be enthusiastic in every scene while Harold Ramis plays the weirdest straight man possible, the joy that is Annie Potts, Sigourney Weaver’s on-screen chemistry with both Murray and Rick Moranis, the special effects, Staypuff and Slimer and so much more. We also go into some ancillary material such as comic books over the years, The Real Ghostbusters cartoon, and oh so many toys.

Comic Timing – Episode 179: There’s Always Time For Collecting Comics!

Today is a very special day. On this date, May 1st, in 2006, the very first episode of Comic Timing was released. That’s ten years ago! Holy crap! Time flies, right? To celebrate, Ian and Brent have put together one heck of an episode for you all. The duo are joined by the Comic Geek Speak crew of Chris Eberle, Shane Kelly, and Adam Murdough to discuss what we all love to do: collect comics! The conversation ranges from how we all first got into the medium to how many comics we’ve owned over the years, how collecting has changed since we all started, what the introduction of digital has done to the industry as a whole, where collecting may go in the future, and a whole lot more. Plus, there are even some suggestions for new readers to check out if you’re looking for a way in the door of comic book collecting!

In honor of this very special 10th anniversary episode of the show, the Comic Timing site has gone through a much needed redesign! Strike up the band and sound the alarms, because Comic Timing has reached its sesquicentennial! To commemorate the occasion, Brent and Ian are joined by the Patrons of Comic Book Podcasting, the Sultans of Speaking Geek…Comic Geek Speak! That’s right, Shane Kelly, Adam Murdough and Jamie D are on the show as we all discuss Team Books. Team Books were last covered on the show waaaaaaaay back in Episode 10A (two co-hosts ago!).
