Comic Timing – Episode 21: Evan Dorkin Interview

Hey folks. Comic Timing is back to its regularly scheduled episodes, and this week, we are joined by one of the funniest comic creators around. He has worked on such projects as Milk and Cheese, Dork, and Bill and Teds Excellent Comic Book, and has also written for animated series such as Space Ghost: Coast to Coast, Superman The Animated Series, and he crated the Adult Swim pilot, Welcome To Eltingville. This man is of course, Evan Dorkin. Evan stops by for a whopping two and a half hours to discuss his career, his thoughts on modern day comics, what companies can do to get kids back into comics, and a whole lot more.

I want to thank Evan for joining us, and I would also like to remind everybody that Episode 20 will be released next week, as Matt and I are joined by Steve Bryant of Athena Voltaire, and Damian Smith will present his second Rogues Gallery, this time on Dr. Doom!

If you would like to send us an e-mail, you can do so over at comictiming@gmail.com, and please vote for us over at Podcast Alley.

Hope everybody enjoys the interview, thanks for downloading, and we will see you all next week!

Comic Timing – Episode 19.5

Hey folks. Well, it was bound to happen eventually. For the first time since the lost Episode 5, an episode of Comic Timing has been scrapped. Ian Levenstein goes solo for this .5 episode as all is explained, as well as when you should expect to hear our interview with Steve Bryant eventually. I also touch on art discontinuity, and how it has appeared most recently in a title it should not appear in: Civil War Frontline.

As always, you can e-mail Comic Timing at comictiming@gmail.com, and please vote for us over at Podcast Alley. The NPR piece I mentioned which includes my Comic Books: Not Just For Kids Anymore segment can be found at http://www.nhpr.org/node/11385.

Also, if you can take the time, please fill out the Podtrac survey now located on our web site. This will allow Comic Timing to get a better idea on its listenership, and to also find sponsors for the show. Thanks guys!

That is all for this week. Again, apologies for this, but I hope everybody enjoys this truncated episode. So thanks for listening, and thanks for downloading.

Comic Timing – Episode 19

Tonight, Comic Timing goes to the movies! Well, comic book movies at least. We discuss every comic movie we can think of, meaning we go from the good, to the bad, to the so incredibly awful it makes you want to burn your eyes to stop the images from getting to your brain. Yep, we even mention Catwoman. Along the way, the three of us give our thoughts on how Marvel and DC can keep their franchises alive and kicking, what makes Independent Comic movies special, and we read the thoughts of some of our forum members too.

Next week, Comic Timing celebrates episode 20 as we welcome the artist of Athena Voltaire, Steve Bryant to the show to discuss independent comics, his career as an artist, and a whole lot more. If you would like to send in questions or comments for us to pass onto Steve, make sure to do so over at comictiming@gmail.com, and please vote for Comic Timing over at Podcast Alley.

Also, for anyone who wishes to donate to Comic Timing, you can now do so via the donation button on our web site. Anything you can give is greatly appreciated, and there is no pressure to donate, as this is a venture done completely out of passion and desire to talk comics after all.

Thanks to everybody for listening and for downloading, and see you all next week.

Comic Timing – Episode 18

Episode 18 of Comic Timing is here, this time with just Matt and I talking comics. We discuss my trip down to Baltimore for the Baltimore Comic Con this past weekend, take a trip from A to Z through the Marvel U, and we go over The Harvey Awards and who they went to this year. Then finally we get into the big announcements of the week that came out of the Marvel Camp this past Monday, including the new writer and artist on Runaways, World War Hulk, and a whole lot more.

As always, you can e-mail Comic Timing at comictiming@gmail.com, and please vote for us on Podcast Alley if you get the opportunity to do so.

We should be back next week with a regular three person panel, and I hope you enjoyed this one too, as it is always fun talking to Matt. Thanks to everybody for downloading the show and for spreading the word, and see you all next week.

Comic Timing – Episode 17

Episode 17 of Conic Timing has arrived. This week, Matt S., Chris Chavez, known to some as Equinox, and myself discuss restarts vs. continuity. Should the comic companies stick with their rich histories, or would it be alright for them to reset things every now and then for the sake of new readers, and to refresh the character? It is a fun conversation, and Chris brings a lot to the table here, so I hope everybody enjoys it.

I also hope to see anyone going to Baltimore Comic Con this weekend, as I shall be roaming around on Saturday and Sunday. Should be plenty of fun to be had by all. Also, a reminder that our second 22 Pages will be Superman Confidential #1 by Darwyn Cooke and Tim Sale. Here is a link to the listing on DCBS where you can get it for a low 74 cents.

As always, you can e-mail Comic Timing at comictiming@gmail.com, and you can vote for us over at Podcast Alley.

Thanks for downloading, thanks for listening, and see you all next week.

Comic Timing – Episode 16

Episode 16 of Comic Timing is now up and running. This week, Matt S., Lord Shaper himself Damian Smith, and myself get together to discuss violence in comics. Are comic books still for kids, or is that a thing of the past? And if so, how are we going to get the next generation involved in the world of comic books? We go from Vertigo to Wildstorm to the MAX line to books that probably deserved this distinction, but instead ended up regular titles. If parents get involved in their children and their reading, will it stop them from reading things they should not? All this and a lot more are discussed in this episode, and Damian also premieres his brand new monthly segment, Rogues Gallery. This month he takes on Deathstroke, one of DC Comics most popular villians.

As always, you can e-mail the show over at comictiming@gmail.com, and don’t forget to vote for us on Podcast Alley.

Until next week, thanks for listening, and catch you all next time.

Comic Timing – Episode 15

Episode 15 has arrived, and with it comes the first ever 22 Pages for Comic Timing. Annihilation #1 is the title in question, and to discuss this book, and a little bit of the background behind cosmic comics of the past, Matthew Kramer aka DarthKramer joins us to share his expertise on the topic at hand. Matt S. also stops by as the resident outsider, a fan of Marvel books but not usually cosmic titles. How will he feel about Annihilation? The answer may surprise you. A reminder that Spoilers for Annihilation #1, the Annihilation Prologue and miniseries, and other former Giffen series such as Thanos and Drax will be found in this episode, so if you plan on reading these and do not wish to be spoiled, please read them, then come on back when you are ready. Also apologies for any lack of editing, as I wanted to get this episode out as planned today, so I only really had enough time to edit half the show before mixing it down, as I have a previous engagement later today.

As always, the e-mail address for Comic Timing is comictiming@gmail.com, and please vote for us over at Podcast Alley.

Thanks to all of our listeners for sticking by us for 15 episodes. It has been plenty of fun, and I hope we have at least 15 more in us. Enjoy the episode folks, and see you all next time.

Comic Timing – Civil War Delay Special

As covered on Newsarama and in other places, Civil War, Marvel’s newest Special Event, has been delayed until September for issue 4, and issue 5 will come out in November. Just what will these delays do to sales for the book and its tie-ins, and what will it do to comics book retailers? Join John Mayo, Matt S., Wayne Cordova and myself as we discuss all facets of the situation.

As always, you can e-mail Comic Timing at comictiming@gmail.com, and don’t forget to vote for us on Podcast Alley.

Enjoy the show, and Episode 15 shall be released before you know it. Thanks for downloading, thanks for listening.

Comic Timing – Episode 14

It’s here! Episode 14 is released, and it is one of our best episodes yet. Peter Rios of Comic Geek Speak joins David Price and myself for a discussion on the ramifications, and benefits of being a comic geek. Should you hide your passion from those close to you, or is it quite simply another hobby and nothing to be ashamed of? We also touch on the media effect on the social stigma associated with comic books, what TV shows like Heroes and Who Wants To Be a Superhero? might do to help comic geeks get accepted, significant moments that led to us accepting our comic geekdom, how comics can help you relate to younger generations, and we announce the winner of our iTunes art contest. To see the art, just view the Now Playing tab in iTunes and you can see the new face of Comic Timing.

Speaking of the new face of Comic Timing, with this episode David Price steps down from his position of co-host to pursue a new project, which I am eagerly anticipating. David will still be back from time to time, but simply will not be on every episode. He will be missed, but you’ll hear the Man of 1000 Podcasts around, and will also have plenty of great guests to talk comics on the show. A special episode of Comic Timing, episode 14B, will be released no later than Sunday, which will be tackling the recent news development: the delay of Civil War.

As always, you can e-mail Comic Timing at comictiming@gmail.com, and don’t forget to vote for us on Podcast Alley!

Until next episode, thanks for listening!

Comic Timing – Episode 13

hey folks. Well, David Price has made it back safely from Wizard World Chicago, and on this week’s episode, we discuss the convention. Along with David, we are joined by two other attendees, Brian Salazar and Chris Neseman from one of the best comics podcasts around, Around Comics. During the episode, we touch on the overall scope of the crowd, creators and comic books that were discovered at the con, the evolution of Dave Wachter and Mike Norton, and a whole lot more. There were portions of the show that had to be cut due to a sounds glitch halfway through the episode that led to myself getting out of sync with the rest of the panelists, but I do hope that you all still manage to enjoy what was able to be make it through, as what did make it is well worth the listen. And thanks again to Chris and Sal for joining us, and we hope to have them back again sometime.

You can e-mail the show at comictiming@gmail.com, and don’t forget to vote for us on Podcast Alley.

Enjoy the rest of the week, and see you all next time.
