This episode specifically focuses on Wolverine’s comic book history from his creation and introduction, up to the end of 1983, with Uncanny X-Men #176, including Claremont and Miller’s Wolverine miniseries. Bustin’ makes me feel good! This episode, Retro Movie Reviews make their way to Comic Timing, and so does the crew of Chris Eberle, Adam Murdough, and Shane Kelly! The foursome is joined by none other than Danielle Corsetto to discuss her favorite movie of all time, Ghostbusters. They go through what makes the movie work so well forty years later, what almost was a movie with John Belushi and Eddie Murphy instead of Bill Murray and Ernie Hudson, Dan Akroyd’s ability to be enthusiastic in every scene while Harold Ramis plays the weirdest straight man possible, the joy that is Annie Potts, Sigourney Weaver’s on-screen chemistry with both Murray and Rick Moranis, the special effects, Staypuff and Slimer and so much more. We also go into some ancillary material such as comic books over the years, The Real Ghostbusters cartoon, and oh so many toys.

Comic Timing Episode 220: Dave Dwonch & The Automaton

Time to once again catch up with an old friend with a new project to promote! Ian sits down with Dave Dwonch, whose Kickstarter campaign for his all-ages Disney/Pixar inspired murder mystery book (words you don’t get to say very often but it’s totally true), The Automaton, is currently underway! Ian and Dave discuss the book in detail, what led him to want to make this story, how Dave can draw parallels between The Automaton’s main character Jeannie and his own upbringing, Dave’s comic book origins and a chance meeting with Mark Gruenwald, and so much more.

More includes Dave getting to meet his artist for this and other projects, Santi Guillen, for the first time at Megacon with a big surprise included, then heading to Disney World itself to Tron it up. Finally, some other deviations like that time Dave almost died in a cab, the time Dave almost died in in a drug den, how times Dave almost died lead to him creating new comics, and more! And a reminder, earmuffs and headphones for this one, we’re relaxed and may swear from time to time, as it were. And the drug den story, that too!

These days, Doug is here to promote a collection of the first four issues of his mystery/horror book Isolation, which is currently available on Kickstarter. They also discuss Doug’s one-panel strip work on Pop Colture Shock Therapy, The Kubert School and taking classes with Joe Kubert himself, turning a novel idea into a comic book idea, what it takes to self-publish a comic book, and plenty more.
